Makeovers with MarkovaTuesday 30 December 2008 James Brindley is making its mark with an upholstery fabric which is proving a consistent choice from the new Fonteyn collection.
The fabric, named Markova, is a versatile and hardwearing silk based tweed which is noted for its outstanding performance.
Rigorously tested and found to be robust under the Martindale rub test; BS EN ISO 12947 : 1999 Abrasion - End Point ( 12 KPa)criteria, designers have quickly identified Markova as an ideal choice for striking furniture and supple drapes.
Particularly popular is the very effective Granite colourway which successfully combines shocking pink with steely grey. All hand dyed, there are eight colourways in total, which can be worked into almost any make-over, from the cool natural tones of Marble to the rich warmth of Conker.

Elgar promenade celebrates Brindley linkFriday 06 June 2008
James Brindley is permanently commemorating a family link to the great composer Edward Elgar at the newly refurbished Royal Hall in Harrogate. Elgar was the great-uncle of Mark Grafton who originally formed James Brindley of Harrogate, now run by his sons Simon and Richard Grafton, who have been keen to support the acclaimed work of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust. Originally completed in 1903, one of the unique features of the Royal Hall - or ‘Kursaal’ - was its 360° ‘circulatory ambulatory’ which provided a place for visitors to gather as they engaged in the social intercourse so popular of the time. Members of the audience could enjoy a brief respite from what was happening on stage to take a light stroll completely around the auditorium. James Brindley’s role in the sponsorship of the Royal Hall restoration is acknowledged in the naming of the restored walkway as ‘The Elgar Promenade’ in honour of Mark’s great Uncle.
