Makeovers with Markova

Tuesday 30 December 2008

James Brindley is making its mark with an upholstery fabric which is proving a consistent choice from the new Fonteyn collection.
The fabric, named Markova, is a versatile and hardwearing silk based tweed which is noted for its outstanding performance.
Rigorously tested and found to be robust under the Martindale rub test; BS EN ISO 12947 : 1999 Abrasion - End Point ( 12 KPa)criteria, designers have quickly identified Markova as an ideal choice for striking furniture and supple drapes.
Particularly popular is the very effective Granite colourway which successfully combines shocking pink with steely grey. All hand dyed, there are eight colourways in total, which can be worked into almost any make-over, from the cool natural tones of Marble to the rich warmth of Conker.

Sir Neville congratulates James Brindley

Tuesday 05 August 2008

Internationally renowned conductor Sir Neville Marriner congratulated Mark Grafton for James Brindley’s contribution to the impressive restoration of the Royal Hall following the Gala Concert on July 21st.

The sparkling Harrogate International Festival event sponsored by James Brindley marked 40 years of Festival music in the iconic and newly refurbished venue. The Academy of St Martin in the Fields were conducted by Sir Neville Marriner in an impressive programme which included masterworks by Haydn, Schubert and Bizet, with violinist Simone Lamsma in Saint-Saens’ stirring showpiece Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.

Mark Grafton, founder of James Brindley of Harrogate and the great nephew of Edward Elgar, was introduced to Sir Neville at the reception in the Royal Hall’s newly restored ‘Kursaal’ walkway. The 360° ‘circulatory ambulatory’ was also sponsored by James Brindley and has been named The Elgar Promenade’ in honour of Mark Grafton’s great Uncle.

Elgar promenade celebrates Brindley link

Friday 06 June 2008

James Brindley is permanently commemorating a family link to the great composer Edward Elgar at the newly refurbished Royal Hall in Harrogate.

Elgar was the great-uncle of Mark Grafton who originally formed James Brindley of Harrogate, now run by his sons Simon and Richard Grafton, who have been keen to support the acclaimed work of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust.

Originally completed in 1903, one of the unique features of the Royal Hall - or ‘Kursaal’ - was its 360° ‘circulatory ambulatory’ which provided a place for visitors to gather as they engaged in the social intercourse so popular of the time. Members of the audience could enjoy a brief respite from what was happening on stage to take a light stroll completely around the auditorium.

James Brindley’s role in the sponsorship of the Royal Hall restoration is acknowledged in the naming of the restored walkway as ‘The Elgar Promenade’ in honour of Mark’s great Uncle.
